After surviving our Turtle Airways flight (did I mention that we had to be weighed to get on the plane? How cruel is that!) we were taken to Turtle Island which looked lovely, and a boat from Navutu Stars arrived to pick us up and take us to the resort.
As our boat was getting closer, we saw that some of the staff were at the water line singing for us, and we were presented with coconuts to drink.
We stayed in the Garden Bure which is only about 15 steps from the beach and has its own garden and hammock area.
I am going to admit that I had no idea that Pineapples grew on little bushes!!
On the first day, S went to get into the hammock and it quickly spun him out and he ended up on the floor. I was laughing hysterically from the windows where he did not know I was watching. It happened to me the next day, and it wasn't quite as funny then.
We were unable to comfortably both be in the hammock as he weighs double my weight so I just kept rolling into him. How are couples meant to enjoy a hammock when they are so unsteady?!
This is the pool but I did not see anyone in it the entire 6 days we were there, and why would you go in the pool when the beach is right in front of you? The resort is owned by Italians hence lots of European touches here and there.
US$70 for a mini bottle of veuve, puh-lease.
Okay. This is the bathroom. It is next to the bed, and has a swinging saloon style door and no roof. How is one meant to have some privacy?!?!?!!?
Cute baby gecko!!
This bread was amazing!! It was more like cake, as it was quite sweet and I could not get enough of it.
Another ASOS bikini. Most of the ASOS bikinis were perfect fit, despite the range of sizes and bra cups that I got. For the price that I paid for them, I am thrilled!!
During Low Tide S and I would walk around the island looking for the best shells. I would keep them in the basin and discover that a few of them were actually hermit crabs as they would move around. I swear those hermit crabs get the best shells.
Food at Navutu Stars was pretty damn good but S got sick from it so he doesn't agree with me. The hotel shop sold out of Gastro Stop whilst we were there so I suppose that says something. I didn't get sick, so I enjoyed it.
Love me some Lobster.
We did not go on the meal plan here, which was US$79 per day per person so that is pretty cheap, but instead stayed a la carte which worked out cheaper as I had pretty much given up the 3 courses each meal by then, thanks to the weigh in at Turtle Airways.
The breakfast was included and it was fantastic!!
Toast, Jam, Fruit, Muffins and Pancakes each day.
We had a few couples massages here, one being a Swedish Massage and the other a banana leaf massage. There was a garbage bag under the banana leaf, which was not very tranquil and I had to get up and have a shower to wash the scrub off my body. It was a good massage, but nothing amazing to be honest.
Snorkeling was great at Navutu Stars as they had a Coral Reconstruction Program and there are some beautiful sights to be seen. I started to follow a big Angel Fish out of the coral and it lead me into the deep where I had a vision of Jaws chomping me in half and freaked out so swam back to the coral where I could see S. I figure that S is meatier than I am so would be eaten first.
Calvin Klein Bikini Top
Victoria's Secret Underwear (better tan line on bum whilst snorkeling!!)
Gypsy 05 Dress. Freshly crinkled from living out of a suitcase.
As you can see, I embraced my curls. It was a shock to the system. It's been a while since I have been this damn curly.
This Watermelon Cosmo was insanely strong. I had to pass it on to the husband as he would be carrying me back to our bure if I attempted to finish it.
The kids from the local village came to sing to us and were so cute, I wanted to take them home with me!!
We had a rather romantic dinner on the beach whilst the weather was still holding up.
Zimmermann Dress
I was pretty much showering in Insect Repellent so I'm sure I smelt pretty sexy.
Let me ask you this, why on earth did God invent mosquitoes?? This makes no sense to me. What are they good for, other than spreading Malaria and Ross River Virus???
Look closely and check out the Toad convention that we stumbled upon at our front door.
On to another dinner, this time on the Sunset Deck which is on top of a hill accessable by stairs. Unfortunately it rained all day, so we were under the cover but it was still beautiful!
Before our dinner, the manager of the resort told us that a Cyclone was coming and we would either need to leave that night or early the next morning other wise we may not be able to leave the island for a few days and miss our next resort booking. This would not be a problem except for the fact that they were fully booked and we would have no where to stay.
We left early the next morning in a hurry as the flight was flying whilst it still could and once we got to Turtle Island we were told that we would have to leave our luggage behind. For me, this was a problem but what could I do. Humans come first!!
Our flight landed safely and we were told that our luggage would arrive in a few hours, much to our (my) relief!!
After waiting around for hours and collecting our luggage we were taken to Nadi Airport where we had a connecting flight to Savusavu. Upon arriving at the airport, we were told that our flight had been cancelled as it was far too dangerous to fly. Obviously there was nothing that could be done, so we headed to the local Mecure where S was happy enough as NFL was playing all day on our room TV. After eating some of the most disgusting food in my life, I went to sleep to escape the nightmare and woke at 5am to news that the flight was on for 6:15AM.
Once we got to the airport, the flight was delayed for 2 hours and then after majority of the passengers began to mill around the airport there was a muffled announcement that the flight was taking off, NOW.
Only 8 people made it on to the flight and it was honestly the most terrifying thing I have ever taken part of. The pilot was sweating (he had his door open) and the turbulence was incredible. The chatter of the other passengers ceased and everyone was gripping the arm rests.
When we landed at the first airport (we had to make 2 stops) there was only meant to be 2 people getting off but another couple decided they were not risking the further journey and got off the plane refusing to get back on. The rain and wind was whipping so hard that the small plane was swaying.
All in all, we made it (obviously) but frigging hell I was scared. I have never been so happy to get off a flight and touch the ground.
I decided to video the room and surroundings as it is a better representation... sorry about my scratched lens! Massive pain in the ass.
To be Continued!!...
